Background
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra is the oldest surviving professional symphony orchestra and the second oldest concert-giving organisation in the UK. The philharmonic includes a choir, contemporary music group, chamber music, youth orchestra and youth choirs.
They give approximately 70 concerts from September to June in its home, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall which is a grade 2 listed building and is one of the UK’s premier arts and entertainment venues. It also makes frequent appearances in London and in concert halls throughout the UK and abroad.

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic has been a client of EDSL since 1998 and have used Sage products for many years, originally using Sage 100 and upgrading to Sage 200.
Unlike many commercial organisations, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic has a unique requirement from its financial system; quite simply it has to create a profit and loss account for every event it holds.
Currently their system holds between 475 & 500 Profit and Loss accounts. This allows the management team to cost out every event, which will identify whether the event had been profitable or had created a revenue loss. The system provides information on ticket sales, refreshment and programme sales, staff costs etc.
An additional benefit for forward planning, the Profit & Loss will help management make a decision on holding future events with the artists based on the past performance and history shown on the Profit & Loss account for the previous event.
